Hi Everyone this is Prem, I have worked as Microsoft 365 support ambassador. In this blog I will share How to Fix Outlook Not Responding Issue.
Microsoft Outlook can go into not responding state depending on the task which is performed.
Sometimes it goes into not responding state when creating a new email as well, which is a basic task to be performed with outlook.
How to Fix Outlook Not Responding Issue
If your Microsoft Outlook on your computer is not working as expected and goes into not responding state when you try to use any of its feature, You can refer the steps mentioned in the article and check which one works the best for you.
Check if your computer has enough free Ram:
Open Task manager on the affected computer:
Once opened, click on Performance tab and check for the Memory available, It should have at least 2 GB Ram free for smoother outlook and other applications operation.
In the above Image we can see that 56% of the Ram is being used, so if Outlook is not responding on this computer, RAM is not the issue.
If you have very less RAM available, try to close all the other application and check the behaviour with Outlook.
Once you have confirmed that you have enough free Ram then it is not the cause of the issue.
Check For updates for Microsoft Outlook:
Open Microsoft Word or Outlook application(you can open any office application as they update together and not individually) and click on File tab > click on Account tab > Then Click on Update Options and select Update Now to check for update and then update the Office applications:
If there is update, it should update automatically, once updated you can check the behaviour of Outlook.
If the Issue is still not fixed we can check the next step.
Check Operating system update:
Search for Check for updates on your computer and open it, then under Windows Update section, click on Check for update, you should then see the screen, Checking for updates…:
It will check and will let you know if there is any update available, if there is any, update it, then check the behaviour of your Outlook application.
Its a good idea to check for updates again from the Outlook application if you have updated the Windows Operating system, as there can be a different version of Outlook available on the new OS.
If the above steps did not work, check the next steps.
Repair your Outlook application:
There are 2 types of repair available for Office applications, Quick repair and Online repair.
To locate the options, Search and Open Control panel on your computer:
Click on Uninstall a program under Programs shown above, and it should show you all the application installed on your computer:
If you are using click to run version of Office application, you can click on the Application as seen below and then click on Change:
Microsoft 365 apps for Business or Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise, both are applications of Office365 and can be activated with the account which has the license assigned respectively.
It will then Prompt you for the type of Repair for your Office applications, select Quick Repair to fix all the local corrupted files.
Once the quick repair is completed check the behaviour of Outlook.
If Quick repair does not help, to repair everything in Office application, select Online Repair, and click On Repair.
After the repair it might ask to reactivate the Office application, so you will have to use the same account which has the required license to sign in to activate it again.
If the above does not work, the next option would be to uninstall and reinstall Office 365 application, more on Official Microsoft Article.
The last option in order to fix the issue would be to check the behaviour with a different windows account on the affected computer.
If Outlook works as expected on the new windows account on the same computer then it could be window profile issue.
Do let me know if you have any question.
