Hi, In the blog we are going to see How To Install Office Applications Without Internet on a windows computer.
We will use the Office Deployment Tool to download the necessary files and then we can use that file on any other computer to install without internet connection.
The Office Deployment Tool (ODT) is a command-line tool that can be used to download and deploy Click-to-Run versions of Office, such as Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise or Microsoft 365 Apps for Business on your windows computer.
Steps to Install Office Applications Without Internet:
Download the required files for downloading Office applications:
Download the Office Deployment Tool from Here.
Once you have downloaded the Office Deployment Tool, Run the file and after you accept the terms and conditions, it will extract the files in the location you have selected.
The files extracted should look like these:
You will see multiple xml files and one setup.exe, we will make use of these files and download Office application on the computer.
Downloading process will required active internet connection.
We now have to first modify the xml file depending on the requirement, we will talk about them below.
This is a sample xml file code:
The above code will help us to download Microsoft 365 Apps for Business which is 64bit with Monthly update channel.
I have selected language US English and have excluded the apps like Groove and OneDrive so that it will not install with the Office application for Business.
The same xml file can be modified for Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise as well:
The above xml file code will download Microsoft Apps for Enterprise, 64 bit with Monthly Update channel.
I have language selected US English and have excluded the apps like Groove and OneDrive so that it will not install with the Office application for Enterprise.
You will have to edit any one of the xml file extracted from the Office Deployment Tool and edit the code as per your requirements.
Product ID=”O365ProPlusRetail” means that it will download Microsoft Apps for Enterprise and Product ID=”O365BusinessRetail” means that it will download Microsoft Apps for Business applications.
Steps to Download the Office applications:
Move the modified xml file and the setup.exe file to a different folder:
I have renamed my xml file to configurationFile.xml.
Search and open command prompt on your computer As an Administrator:
Once opened it should look like this:
Copy the path where you have your xml and the setup.exe file:
In my case it is : E:\OfficeBusinessNoInternet, we will change the Command prompt path to this path:
If you have created the folder in C Drive, then you don’t have to change the drive but for my case, I have the file in the E drive, so to change from C drive to E drive I have to run the command: “E:“and hit enter.
Once the Drive is changed I can change the directory to the folder which has the required files, by running this: CD E:\OfficeBusinessNoInternet
CD stand for Change Directory followed by the path where I have the xml and setup file.
Once you are in the directory, to start the download you will have to run the following command: setup.exe /Download configurationFile.xml
configurationFile.xml is the name of the modified xml file, when we run the above command we ask it to download the files according to the specified xml file.
When the command is initiated a folder named Office is created and all the required files are downloaded in that folder:
Once the download is completed the cursor will stop blinking on the command prompt and the size of the Office folder would be around 3gb(Depends on the configuration).
Steps to Install Office Applications Without Internet:
Once you have downloaded the files using the above steps, we can start with the installation.
The installation can be done on any computer without internet, you will have to move the 3 files (Office folder, xml file and setup.exe)on that computer first.
We will have to modify the configurationFile xml file again and mention the folder path where we have kept the Office folder with all its downloaded files.
Below is the example of the xml file after adding the SourcePath defining the location of the Office folder downloaded in first step:
SourcePath=”E:\OfficeBusinessNoInternet” is added and is the only change in the previous xml file.
Once you have made the changes as shown above, Open the Command prompt as an Administrator again and change the directory where you have the xml file and the setup.exe present:
Run the command to start the installation of Office application without Internet: setup.exe /Configure configurationFile.xml
Once you run the above command it will start the installation of the Office application from the Office folder without internet:
