Hi Everyone this is Prem, I have worked as Microsoft 365 support ambassador. We see a lot of ticket for “Set of Folders Cannot be Opened Error in Outlook”. In this blog I am going to share a common step which we used to suggest to end users.
The error can have different reason mentioned as well which caused the error to occur. For eg. Set of Folders Cannot be Opened, the ost file is corrupted.
All the error starting with Set of Folders Cannot be Opened can be troubleshooted with one Generic step.
Steps to Fix Set of Folders Cannot be Opened Error in Outlook:
Close Outlook app completely.
Open file Explorer then Go to C drive then Click to open Users folder :
Select the user account which you have logged in with on the computer (In my case its premb):
Click on view and then check the box for Hidden items :
Open AppData folder then Local and then Microsoft folder.
In Microsoft folder we will look for the folder named Outlook :
Outlook folder is the folder which stores all your ost files of your accounts configured in Outlook.
We will rename the folder to Outlook.old by right clicking on it > Rename :
This will ask Outlook to recreate the Outlook folder and re download all the Ost files for the configured account.
You don’t have to create a new profile of Outlook after this step as your configured accounts will still be in your outlook.
If it is not allowing you to rename the Outlook folder, make sure that the outlook is not running in the background.
Once renamed Re- launch Outlook application and check the behaviour.
